UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) - 2006
Proceedings of the UNCRPD, 2006 represents a quite valuable document concerning the adjustment, education and welfare of the persons with disabilities.
It begins with a preamble and includes 50 articles. As a matter of educational provisions for the disabled, necessary statements have been provided in the article 24 of this document and overall purpose of the drafting of document has been provided in the Article 1.
Purpose of this Convention
The purpose of this convention was to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity.
Persons with disabilities include those who have long-team physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
Educational Provisions of this Convention
States should ensure the following points -
Recognize the rights of persons with disability without any discrimination.
Inclusive education at all levels and promote lifelong learning.
Full development of human potential, sense of dignity and self-worth and respect for human rights and human diversity.
Development of personality, talent, creativity, physical and mental abilities of persons with disabilities.
Enabling persons with disabilities to participate freely in society.
Inclusion of persons with disabilities into general education system and provided with free and compulsory education.
Provided education in general schools.
Persons with disabilities are provided with reasonable accomodation of individual's requirements and are given the support required.
Persons with disabilities are provided with such educational and social environment where objectives of inclusive education can be attained.
Help persons with disabilities to learn life and social development skills.
Facilitate the learning of Braille and alternate scripts and facilitate peer support and mentoring.
Facilitate the learning of sign language and promotion of the linguistic identity of the deaf community.
Ensuring the education of people with visual or hearing impairment.
To employ teachers, including teachers with disabilities, who are qualified in sign language and/or Braille.
To train professionals and all school staff with the use of appropriate communication methods.
State will ensure that persons with disabilities are able to access general tertiary education, vocational training, adult education and lifelong learning without any discrimination.
State will ensure that persons with disabilities are provided with reasonable accomodation.
State will ensure that all these provisions are available for persons with disabilities without any biasness.
